Story Tellers at Live for Art Gallery in March

Live 4 Art Gallery, 20 Charles Colman Blvd., Pawling NY 12564

Pawling NY – Every gallery show at Live 4 Art Gallery, Pawling NY, has a distinct personality. The March show, Story Tellers, features six artists whose work expresses and interprets their lives.

Lonna Kelly often asks herself; how can I do more with my photography? Camera Obscura is an intriguing direction she has taken. It’s a centuries old technique that has little to do with a camera. It starts with a completely darkened room with a small opening to the outside. An image is projected onto the wall opposite the hole. Scientific explanations aside, Kelly feels it’s magic.

“In a way all photography is a self-portrait” Kelly explained “here’s my world as I see it. The camera obscura work in this show puts me in the image. An exploration of places I’ve visited. An exploration of self as I contemplate myself in each frame”.

Carol-Lee Kantor sees her paintings as a celebration of love and life.  Each moment, an infinite possibility for creative expression. Her paintings span her lifetime, her memories as a child, loving to draw and color with big crayons, paint with her watercolor box brush, shape clay and arrange popsicle sticks, stones and wood scraps.

“Mixing and blending colors is the most fascinating part of my painting experience”, Kantor stated, “the outcome, always a mystery — most of my artwork, unfinished — always more to be done!”

Terry Ariano is a photographer whose work in this show draws from her recent travels. She explains, “Through the camera I can extend and record my perceptions of the beauty and magic in the world I encounter each day. Currently I am inspired to capture nature, clouds, reflections and found scenarios in the Hudson Valley.” Ariano’s recent travels to Peru, Ireland and the American West inspired the current landscape series that will be on view at Live for Art gallery.

Mixed media artist, Donna Castelluccio, specializes in designing with vintage materials and upcycling. Castelluccio feels the pull to be creative in all aspects of her life. She enjoys putting items together to make an interesting whole that’s unique, fun and pleasing to look at. Work in the show includes a series of manikins draped and dressed in laces, repurposed crochet and netting.

A creator whose work incorporates a variety of media to express her ideas, Wendy Alvarez has worked both two and three dimensionally with paint, metal, textiles, paper and palm frond bases. Alvarez draws inspiration from both nature and the use of patterns, in particular those used by diverse cultures throughout history. Alvarez thinks of these designs as a dynamic, universal language, connecting us all to one another and allowing her to continue this age-old story. Several of Alvarez’s series will be highlighted in this show: Heads of State, Kindreds and Tweets.

Recently deceased, Karen Presser is represented in the show. A friend to many of the exhibiting artists they welcome the opportunity to show her paintings and montages. A selection of Karen’s work, curated by her sister, will include images from her Angel series and the ethereal photo collages Presser created. Of her work Presser wrote “I’m an Art history addict.  I discovered, quite by accident, that although the subject matter is dissimilar, I share a lot with Renaissance painters who searched for contact with the sacred. I do know it’s spirit I’m after.”

The opening reception for Story Tellers will be held on March 4, 2-4pm. Gallery hours are Friday 2-6, Saturday 10-4, and Sunday 11-3
