Thinking of Woods on a Confined Evening by Timothy Tocher
Whose woods these are I’m proud to say.
We’d lose them any other way
to factory or power plant
depriving us of space to play
Instead folks use them every day
to hike, or bike, to ski or sleigh.
This pristine beauty’s free for all,
for not a penny do we pay.
Perhaps you hear the loon’s wild call,
endure a goose’s squawking bawl,
the tuneful music of the lark,
or blessed silence best of all.
So come out early, stay till dark,
Enjoy the woods but leave no mark.
